Introduction to Training
Although cute and cuddly, miniature horses still require training to help them reach their full potential and develop into the wonderful companions and versatile athletes they are capable of becoming. At Care-A-Lot Miniature Horses, we focus on the fundamentals of teaching good ground manners, with an emphasis on respect and trust of the handler. We spend a lot of time getting to know each individual mini, and we ensure they are kind, quiet and respectful before graduating from our fundamental training program.
Once our minis have learned the fundamentals, they transition into our horsemanship training program, where our more advanced students work to strengthen their bond and build trust and communication between the horse and handler while having fun and building friendships. During this stage of training, our minis are introduced to poles, cones and various obstacles that they will likely encounter in the future. They are also taken off the farm for further exposure and acclimation to horse shows and other events.
The final stage of our horsemanship training program is when our minis graduate into our horsemanship lesson program which is designed for children and adults of all ages and levels. We always work hard to appropriately match horse and handler, taking into account temperament and training level to ensure a successful and enjoyable partnership.
Training in Action
Shenanigans and Rockstar in the very early stages of their horsemanship training. Learning to lead and halt at the cone…early January 2025

Between significant amounts of snow, ice, frozen ground, and genuine muck, it has been difficult to do much consistent training with the minis this winter. We did however squeeze a little work in with them in early February in between winter storms.
